Pie Problem Solved

It's funny; i never asked anyone if taking a pie to Mr. and Mrs. Pirate was a good idea, but I got a whole ton of yays and nays on the proposition, for varying reasons. Back in the Heartland, it is accepted practice to bring a homemade fruit pie as a hospitality gift when you stay in someone's home, particularly in the summertime when things are in season. I've never in my life heard of such a gesture being offensive, but just in case I ran the idea past the Pirate last night (we went for a picnic supper in the park), and he said it was brilliant and his parents would love it. Sorted.

It is brilliant why on Earth would it be offensive?

Hello, Ranter. Welcome to M.E.; many happy returns.

Did you read the comments from the last post? I've never heard of pie stirring up such a controversy! It was madness!

It's a lovely idea.

I think it's always lovely to make a gesture from your homeland when you're abroad. I keep meaning to make Welsh cakes for my friends here but unfortunately I don't bake.

Ooh, I love Welsh cakes. His Harriness bought me some for breakfast when we were camping in St. Davids. They were brilliant! 2 of those little puppies sat in my gut for days. It was the closest thing I've ever had to lembas bread for endurance food.

How weird to be offended by pie. Maybe if it were mincemeat though...

I stand by my ant-blackberry pie position and I REFUSE TO MOVE!! unless you make me a blackberry pie too.
oh fine. make sure to have some Oxybleach on hand.

mincemeat pie only looks offensive. the offensive pie is not a pie; it is FRUITCAKE.
FRUUUUUUUUUUUUUITCAAAAAAKE.
the guck that comes packed in a caaaaaaaaaaan. that never goes baaaaaaaad. EVEEEEEEEEEEEEER.

You're in Brissle right?

Have you had lardy cake? It's well yummers (and not disgusting as the name might suggest) I've seen it in Greggs once or twice.

I'm really not one to talk about the whole 'bring the pie or don't' thing, you know.

I bring people food willy-nilly. And when I have people over I send them home with OBSCENE amounts of extra food. Partially because I cook for 50 when only serving 5.

If the Pirate says it's ok to take a pie then take a pie. I still wouldn't. But that's just cos I've met people would look askance at the gift of a pie. (me I wouldn't so don't think you'll get out of baking me a pie when you come to visit)
