The Pirate informed me this week that The Powers That Be have given him a new job. His original return date of 22 Nov has been chucked out the window. He does not know when he will be home. To make matters worse, he normally emails me every day. Since receiving this news (in a brief, 2-sentence email) I've not heard a peep from him.

I know not what this portends, but I am left to imagine the worst. I am very worried.

chin up, our imaginations can be our worst enemies sometimes

I second that. It's so easy to let some small fear bloom. Go work out. Or have some wine. That's what I do.

Here's hoping that chin and those lips are gracing your threshold very soon.

What they said.

You did (in jest, I suspect) ask me to contact you, for a pie delivery - but I would just point out, in case you wanted to do this seriously at any time, that I can't see your e-mail address anywhere in your profile.

dave, what are you doing blogging on a sunday morning? don't you need to be at work???

it isn't? whoops. sorry. will fix that. i wasn't completely joking about the pie. unfortunately there are logisical obstacles to be over come (lack of car, time, or money), but i really would like to bring you a treat, and logistics aren't impossibilities.

frobi: ta. i know you're right, but that doesn't make the nightmares go away, sadly.

michael: i already work out 2-5 hours a day -- what do you want from me??? and i can't drink wine - alcohol hinders training. but EXCELLENT double entendre. thank you. :-)

I agree with the rest of the lot. You can't, can't, can't think about it like that. You will drive yourself insane.

Also--you really ought to tell the Pirate to have a chat with the Powers That Be. Selfish buggers. Some of us are living vicariously here. I was waiting for that post, dammit!!

Hang tough, kid :P

Don't try to figure it out until you have more information.
Try to avoid devising doomsday scenarios...you may say something that you can't take back.

Find your happy place or just go with your gut and FIND OUT WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!

Everyone is right. Try not to imagine the worst.

I have a feeling that last minute rescheduling, intermittent or no communications and very little information goes with the territory of being a pirate and by default you have also taken on that territory.

You just have to hang in there - be strong and when you do hear from him (as you will just as soon as he is allowed to email I'm sure)be cheerful and bright and happy. Don't mention your own worries and fears about him, because worrying about someone worrying about you is a stress and a strain and he probably doesn't need any more stresses and strains at the moment. Don't ask him about what's going on either - if he could have told you then no doubt he would have done.

Remember too that it's always worst for the person who is waiting. The pirate knows what hes doing and where he's going and will no doubt be getting on with his pirating in a shipshape manner.

Hang in there CB. I know its tough and it hurts and the knot of worry inside you is made from barb wire but despite all that you just have to believe that everything will be alright. Hx

"Hanging tough, aye sir!"

Thanks guys for all your love and support. I got a communique from him this morning alluding to an evening we have planned on 13 December, so without mentioning a date he effectively told me he expects to be back by then. Clever Pirate!

And no, I never tell him that I worry about him. Worrying about me worrying about him is the last thing he needs; his job is stressful enough as it is. Besides, I don't want to shatter his delusion that I'm the sort of strong woman who can be a pirate's wife and hold down the homefires and keep the fort burning etc etc.

sorry, Herebe; I'm afraid I had to delete that last comment of yours. You mentioned the Pirate's actual employer and for the sake of his career I really want to keep that mum. It's unlikely that anyone who knows him would be reading this blog, but it's a small world and stranger things have happened, so i'd rather not take the risk.

Shit. Sorry. I though his location was secret not his job. After all, if everyone involved in those type jobs was supposed to have their whereabouts kept secret then their employers wouldn't know where to find them.

And they'd have to know your pet name for him, put two and two together etc etc...

And if mentioning your employers is verboten then I'm fucked. My webpage is littered with references to my employers being fucking imbeciles.

But I take your point.
