Well that was fun

Or not. I guess it depends on your definition of 'fun.' I define 'fun' as...

No! No more of that! My head is spinning. We will now return to our regularly scheduled program of whining, ranting, and divulging lurid details of my relationship with a certain sea-faring scallawag. And photos of hamsters. (Natch.)

So first up, whining:

My back hurts. It hurts a lot. I'm sick of it hurting, I'm sick of not being active and athletic and ass-kicking, of feeling weak and useless and helpless, and I'm rapidly losing confidence in my therapist. This sux.

And now a bit of ranting:

The medical care at the hospital in my hometown is SHIT. My father went in for a "routine procedure" on Monday. By the evening he was in extreme pain, so the nursing staff decided to do a follow-up procedure which, while being utterly agonizing, was supposed to ultimately relieve the original pain. Did it? Did it fuck. After doing the agonizing procedure THREE times, THEN they decided to do an ultrasound to see what was causing the pain, and lo! it wasn't the thing they thought it was, so the Hat-Trick of Agony was completely unnecessary from the beginning! Awful fucking hospital. He's home now, and with mom looking after him instead of supposed trained monkeys nurses, so he's doing much better.

A few lurid details:

Sorry, Hannah; I havn't seen the Pirate since last week. He's got something up his sleeve for saturday, though (actually cancelled a cricket match to spend the day with me), so I should have some juicy tidbits for you next Monday.

And finally:

There. Are we all happy now???

Oh, one more thing. Today is April 18th, aniversary of the start of the American Revolution and Paul Revere's famous ride. Henry Wadsworth Longellow wrote a poem about it, and every year on the 18th of April mom and I phone each other and recite the poem. It's a good poem. I can't phone you and recite it for you, but here's a link: http://poetry.eserver.org/paul-revere.html

Oh, and one more thing (said Colombo): I am the number one hit on Google if you search for the phrase "Cambridge fitties." Go on, try it. You know you want to.

actually, that photo's a bit old. right now i'm concerned he may be a bit too skinny. i hoped the peanut butter would fatten him up a bit, but he didn't seem to like it. hmmm.

Your poor Father, I hope he is feeling better...and you? What exactly are your options for getting some relief?

Good 'ol Bluto, howzabout adding a dollop of fancy schmancy salad dressing on his greens?

I was going to comment that your foray into the phantasmagorical wonderland of Theology was quite intoxicating.

I have a few sites that I visit where the patrons regurgitate unbelievable snippets of history, religion and philosophy in search of the ULTIMATE TRUTH. They dash about lobbing bon mots at each other and it is incredibly rewarding.

That's what I love about Bloggers..we fully expect to decipher the very nature of reality, hopefully within a couple of days, despite the fact that GIANTS have struggled with it for Millenia. Ya gotta love it!!

Much better - it was getting a bit too much like work.

That's more like it! Excellent Bluto pic; good news about the Pirate (and hell. Giving up cricket? Must be love); generally far more suited to my attention span and intellectual capacities, being - as we are - in the middle of exam revision season. When I'm not looking at Ginsberg's model of analysing the EU, I don't wish to be challenged in any way, shape or form!

That said, so sorry to hear about your father. Hope he gets better soon.

Homo: i didn't really expect to solve the mysteries of the universe, but i figured someone else had thought about that particualr question before and had an answer that was satisfactory to his/her own mind. I guess not.

Dave: sorry, mate. I appreciate your input, tho.

Billy: I'm a work now, but i'll look at it when I get home.

FN: not spinal. The initial proceedure was for his prostate. The complication they attempted to correct with a trifecta of torture was relating to his catheter. I won't say any more.

Hannah: thanks, babe. good luck with the exams. What course are you reading? if you have literature conundrums I may be able to lend a hand...

CB -
i was thinking about the previous discussion. Do you think the concept of faith might be a good idea because it is linked to creative thinking? (and i don't mean that you have to have faith of any kind - even in giant invisible bunnyrabbits - to be creative, i just was thinking about scientists who get hunches about things and then try to see if their hunch is correct. isn't there a point in time during that process where the scientist at some level believes in something he cannot prove? (yet). or am i confusing the issue yet again? anyway, i wonder if the concept of faith, in believing in something you cannot prove, is related somehow to imagination and creativity, which i think are good things for people in general.

My Word CB I wasn't implying that..I was merely being over exuberant about this wonderful and wacky place known as the Blogosphere.

fyi: I'm ready to take another kick at the can whenever you are.

Politics, specifically theoretical approaches to international relations; the EU's position as a global actor; and international security. I have plenty of conundrums with THE literature, but I don't think that's what you were getting at! Offer of help hugely appreciated, though.

Oh, and have fun this weekend...

May I ask what kind of therapy you are getting for your back? The rowing, she is a cruel mistress for the lumbar disks.
