Sad... and suspicious

The Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare has been destroyed by fire. It's quite sad, really. I've been there a few times. Hairy Man used to take me there for ice cream.

It also seems a bit suspicious to me. The new owners just spent loads on restoration and renovation. Can all you boys and girls say "insurance fraud?" Sure, I knew you could.

If it was fraud they would have torched it before they spent all the money on the go-kart.

Unlikely to be insurance job as the refurb was finished. You torch a place *before* you put new buildings on it. This used to happen often when i worked in a branch of estate agency selling commercial buildins and land for development. Listed building in the way? Just go chat about it over lunch in one of other of the wine bars frequented by certain people and it will soon burn down.

I used to go to Weston pier with a group of friends from Airbus and we'd mess about like kids and go on any rides adults were allowed on and eat candyfloss and stuff like that.

Southend pier burnt down soon after I visited it as a child :(

They cancelled the fire alarm noyification to a private company a month before the fire. The place where the fire was supposed to have started was at the entrance to the pier and somehow jumped to the far end without burning the bit in the middle.

If you look into it, the owner has had fires in every business he has ever owned.
