Things that annoy the piss out of me

People who walk slowly.

People who stand on the pavement 5 a-breast having a conversation and don't move when asked politely to do so, so that I actually have to walk on the street to get around them.

Chuggers. They all need to DIE!!!

People who claim atheism is just another religion.

Shitehawks breeding on the ledge under my window.

People who chew with their mouths open and make loud, smacking souds with the food.

Students who don't shut up and pay attention when the lecturer begins to speak.

The price of replacement ink cartridges for my printer.

That's it for today. I'm sure tomorrow I'll have more.

I'll vote for you!
What is it with people walking slowly. Can they not speed it up?
Oh and the printer ink thing? Just shelled out nearly 60 quid on printer ink....That money should have been spent on shoes! Aaaaaargh!

Yeah, those slow bastards, I hate them too. I've been out of the UK for too long - what's a chugger?

Slang for Charity Mugger, those annoying twats who stand on the street corners holding clipboards and solicity money for every worthy cause under the sun.

I wouldn't hate them so much if I lived out of town and only came into the city once in a while to do shopping or some such, but I live right in the town center, and between my flat and the uni there are no less than 4 chuggers out every single day, and i'm sick to death of being pestered by them.

It is.

Deal with it.

People who walk slowly: kick their ankles.

Chuggers: Say hello to them in a bright tone of voice, then just walk off.

People who say atheism is a religion: direct them to dictionary definition of religion.

Hope that helps.

dang, i feel all trivial now. the one that really gets to me is the shitehawks on the ledge. i hate them, i hate the noise they make, i hate the mess they make and i hate the fact that they make other shitehawks almost continuously while you're trying to enjoy the landscape. fuckers should pay rent. hourly. like a hotsheet motel.

Billy: I've taken to just barking "NO!" at them while walking past. Most of them recognize me now and know to not bother the crazy bird with the bright green backpack.

dictionary, eh? not a bad idea.

FN: Oh, the noise! Oh, the noise! Noise! Noise! Noise!
That's one thing he hated! The NOISE! NOISE! NOISE! NOISE! (From 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas')

Herebe: The American Heritage Dictionary (4th edn.) defines 'religion' as "

1. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
2. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship."

Atheists neither recognize nor revere a supernatural power, nor do we have any kind of an institutionalized system of ritual or worship.

Does that clear things up for you?

Grr, those students who don't pay attention! When I was at uni training to be a probation officer members of my class held whispered conversations with people on the other side of the room via Bluetooth headsets. It was unbelievable. I had the temerity to ask one of them to shut the hell up once and they loudly declaimed me as a racist... These were the same people who interrupted the first sentence of every lecture to drawl through their chewing gum: "Is there gonna be handouts?" Jesus, if you're not sufficiently interested to make notes then eff off back to McDonalds.

Sorry, I've clearly been holding that in for a long time.

ZB: See the definition of religion on wikipedia.

See the definitions of religion on this page (all sourced from good quality dictionaries):

http://atheism.about.com/od/religiondefinition/a/dictionary_old.htm

Note that none of them would include Atheism as a religion. Given that the dictionary definitions do not back your claim the burden of proof is with you.

A position of no faith is still in itself inherently a position of faith.

No. I don't accept Wikepedia as an academic source and if you had an ounce of common sense neither would you. It's written on the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy principle (anyone wandering past who fancies doing a bit of work)and just isn't good enough as a source of stringent reference. In fact, I automatically fail my students out of hand for using it.

Response to ZB: Firstly, personal attacks don't make for good rational discussion.

Secondly, you reckon wikipedia doesn't qualify as its an encyclopedia? I included it because I know in this particular case (the definition of religion) that there would have been lot of work regarding that definition. Nevertheless even if you reject it you still need to find a reason for rejecting all the other definitions!

Perhaps we disagree in our definitions of faith. I would say faith is "Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.". By this definition a position of no belief in God is not a faith position.

A definition of faith that drops the material evidence part entirely would be a useless definition for our universe as it would apply to any empirical statement whatsoever.

My conviction that my computer exists is not a position of faith by any reasonable usage of the word.

Oh what the eff ever! Atheism is about as much of a religion as is the glass is half full versus half empty. Hello, I'm the pastor-ess of the half-empty religion. I do not believe the glass is half full therefore I must be of the religion that it is not. How stupid is that?

I do not believe in a lot of things. That does not make every non-belief a religion.

I do not believe that blue space monkeys steal my socks from the dryer. Again - that does not make me a member of the anti-blue space monkey religion.

I don't even like calling myself an Atheist. I don't have to qualify my non-belief in tarot cards or astrology, why should I have to have a label because I don't believe in a Sky Fairy? Bah.

/rant off. Thank you.

Pavement obstructors, both stationary and mobile, annoy me.

Chuggers make my normally pacifistic self want to murder them.

Shitehawks = pigeons? The townie ones aren't even suitable for pei.
