Ostrich strategy

I can't contemplate the inhumanity and profound evilness of the Burmese junta, standing by while scores of thousands of Burmese people starve to death or die of dehydration, exposure, and disease. I don't understand it, I just don't understand. I can't begin to wrap my brain around it.

So instead I'm going to tell you my favorite uses for peanut butter.

Things on which I put Peanut Butter:
  • Toast, then sprinkled with cinamon and sugar
  • Apples
  • Sandwiches, with sliced banana inside
  • Sandwiches, with strawberry or grape jam
  • Sandwiches, with honey
  • NOT sandwiches with mayonaise. That's just gross. Ew ew ew ew ew ew.
  • Celery, with raisins
  • Ritz crakers
  • Rich tea biscuits
  • Animal crakers
  • Graham crakers
  • Chocolate
  • Cinamon raisin bagels. Seriously, try it sometime.
  • Dogs' noses. (No, I don't eat dogs' noses. I said 'Things on which I put peanut butter', not 'Things on which I eat peanut butter.' Ha ha! Did I catch you?)

What ARE Graham crackers? And are they pronounced Gram crackers? I heard it on a US tv programme the other day and was intrigued...

The closest equivalent are digestive biscuits, which are also made from graham flour, but American graham crakers are made from a more finely ground flour, and so don't have the gritty texture. They are lovely. (and yes, it's pronounced 'gram'.)

I don't understand American's obsession with peanut butter. Peanuts are the devil's work.

I don't know if you have them in the UK, but my favorite thing to put peanut butter on is Fig Newtons.....oh docter, its fantastic and I can't stop myself.

you'll probably end up hating me for telling you cause you're gonna put on like 15 lbs thanks to that.

TB: if you are allergic to peanuts i will forgive that remark. otherwise...

s.v: ooh, i'm going to try that! they do have fig newtons over here (thank god, it would be a vast wasteland otherwise.)

The Burmese Junta have been seizing aid and using it to quell a millitary rebellion.

They are hyper paranoid at Western interference in their politics especially as they are having a referendum to move to an Iran style quasi-democracy (an improvement for Burma).

Given these two facts their actions make more sense.

They're still incredibly selfish and miopic of course.

You're awfully understanding. I think that makes it even worse. Are you saying that they're dangling food and water in front of starving people and refusing to give it to them unless they cooperate? That's even sicker than I thought. It's times like this I really wish I believed in Hell. It would be comforting thought.
